Abraham is called the father of faith, and for good reason. He is a good example of what staying positioned in Faith and Courage looks like.
17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
There are four things mentioned in these scriptures that Abraham did to stay positioned in faith and courage.
1. When it looked hopeless, he placed his hope in what God promised.
2. He was not weak in faith – this was shown by his refusal to consider what was.
3. He did not stagger (reason, vacillate, go back and forth)
4. He was fully persuaded that God would do what he said he would do.
All four of these points speak to being rooted in the Word of God. Today, I want to encourage you to turn towards the Word of God and anchor yourself in it even as Abraham rooted himself in what God spoke to him.
When facing a hopeless situation, put your hope in the promises of God. To develop strong faith, focus on what the Word says about your situation and avoid dwelling on how tough it may seem.
Avoid doubting the Word, and stay away from being double-minded. The Word reminds us that a double-minded person is unstable in all their ways (James 1:8). Instead, make a conscious effort to have your mind made up and rooted in the truth of God's Word.
Be fully persuaded and have complete trust in God's infallible and unchangeable Word.
Do not allow anyone or anything, including your own circumstances, to persuade you to doubt God's Word. Remember, with God, all things are possible.
